Have you ever felt like you needed to segment your life? As a business owner and a Christian, I am often encouraged to remove the Bible verse from my email signature and my website. Every time, I am reminded that we are clearly instructed in the consequences of disowning God.
How do we hold onto our faith without losing business? I believe the business we are meant to have will come to us WHEN we hold onto our faith. We can be professional and show God's love in all we do, business and personal.
The same day I had one of these conversations I was reminded that I started my business not only to provide for my family, but also to make a difference, a fact that I had lost sight of. How did God bring that back into my focus?
I normally do not get on email before I do my devotion, but something led me to write an email to a colleague about how I’ve lost focus in my business – that I want to help others, not just make money. At this point another email popped into my in box. It was from a well-known podcasting coach. His focus that day – making an impact. Then I opened my morning email devotion, and the verse from Ephesians 2 was that we were created to do good. When I opened my Bible to find the passage, it opened it to Zechariah – “not by might but by my spirit”. Then I turned to the wrong page in Ephesians and read that God calls each of us to different things.
I know God does not do coincidences and He has led me to each of these emails, thoughts, and verses for a reason. My calling is not to be out in the limelight – I know to keep my focus on God that is not the place for me. My calling is to help those who should be out in front reach the people who need them.
I do know that my business cannot just be focused on making money, creating digital products, growing a business or creating "my brand". It must be about helping people, making a difference in the world, and doing good......about promoting God's "brand".
Not by my might or by my work, but by God’s spirit will I do the good I was created to through the gifts that God has given me.
What is your gift? What good can you do? And how can you use your business to do it?
